I remember as a teenager hearing a radio show- the details are hazy, but I think a detective was hired by a man who thought someone was scamming him into believing he was being haunted by the ghost of his wife. They experience all kinds of ghostly encounters, but both the detective and the client believe it's all a hoax, until the end, when the man releases the detective from employment with a note reading "I was wrong." The ghost was real.
Scared me to death and I have to find it again. Please help!

I believe the story you are referring to is an episode
The Adventures of Harry Nile: "The Lonely Ghost Matter."
A professor from UCLA hires Harry to prove the "ghost" that haunts him is an annoying student
and not his deceased wife, Frannie. When Harry attends a séance; that theory evaporates. . . .
The cast of "The Lonely Ghost Matter" included:
Phil Harper as Harry Nile
Terry McManus as Prof. John Brittain
Pat French as Marilyn/Frannie
Jay Green as the Swami/Narrator
(Terry McManus used his Jimmy Stalwart/Jimmy Stewart voice for the role of Prof. John Brittain.)
It was written, directed and produced by Jim French.
It first aired on KVI Theater of the Mind in Seattle on 03/21/1978.
It has also aired on the syndicated Imagination Theatre on 08/11/1996 and 10/29/2000.
"The Lonely Ghost Matter" may be available from Jim French Productions
